Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are bringing co-op gameplay to the series this November

It has taken some years, but in the latest trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, it has been announced that players will be able to adventure around the new world, with up to three friends, with 4 player online co-op. Oh and there are new characters, Pokémon and the release date, with the games hitting Switch on November 18.

Let us start with the biggest reveal and no, surprisingly that is the Pokemon with the jet engines attached to its legs, but rather the fact that the game will offer 4 player co-op. The official press release has it worded as such:

“Pokémon, players will be able to explore the various locations of the region in these games with up to four players“

Detailed I know, but it is present, which is a big change. In past games the only thing you could do was battle or trade, so the ability to do that and run around with mates is a big change.

Speaking of big, let us address the two new legendary Pokémon, Koraidon and Miraidon. For those who pick up the Scarlet release, Koraidon is the one for you, hint it is the red one below and those on Violet, yep you get the purple one below, Miraidon.

Of course there are other new Pokémon to discover, three new ones confirmed are Pawmi, Lechonk and Smoliv, you can see them in the trailer above, or check out their official artwork below.

Here are the official descriptions for each of the new Pokemon:

Pawmi

In addition to the electric sacs in its cheeks, Pawmi has electricity-discharging organs on its forepaws. It generates electricity by rubbing its cheeks, then it shocks its opponents by touching them with the pads on its forepaws.

The fur that covers its body is good insulation against the cold and serves the purpose of storing electricity. When it feels uneasy, this cautious Pokémon will begin rubbing its cheeks, preparing itself to discharge an electric shock.

  • Category: Mouse Pokémon

  • Type: Electric

  • Height: 1'

  • Weight: 5.5 lbs.

  • Ability: Static / Natural Cure

Lechonk

Lechonk uses its sense of smell to find and eat only the most fragrant wild grasses and the richest Berries. As a result of its dining habits, it has come to radiate an aroma resembling herbs that Bug-type Pokémon dislike. If attacked by an opponent and startled, it will charge forward in a panic.

It may appear fat at first glance, but in reality, the Pokémon’s body is mostly muscle built by constantly walking around in search of food.

  • Category: Hog Pokémon

  • Type: Normal

  • Height: 1'8"

  • Weight: 22.5 lbs.

  • Ability: Aroma Veil / Gluttony

Smoliv

The oil that comes out of its head has a very strong bitter taste, and it is not suitable for consumption. When startled or attacked, Smoliv will shoot this oil out, slowing its opponent down. It will then seize that moment to run away. In the fruit on its head, Smoliv stores oil made from nutrients it gathers through photosynthesis. As a result, it can go for a week without eating or drinking. It prefers dry and sunny climates, and it seems to spend its days sunbathing.

  • Category: Olive Pokémon

  • Type: Grass/Normal

  • Height: 1'

  • Weight: 14.3 lbs.

  • Ability: Early Bird

Finally, with new Pokémon come new professors and the game is bringing two to players, Professor Sada and Professor Turo. This time though, much like how some Pokémon are exclusive to each version of the game, in Pokémon Scarlet, players will meet Professor Sada, and in Pokémon Violet, players will meet Professor Turo. Each professor is carrying out research into lore passed down in the region.

Professor Sada is on the left and Professor Turo is on the right below.

Players will also get to interact with a new trainer Nemona, she has a sunny, energetic disposition and is passionate about Pokémon battles. She’s an experienced Pokémon Trainer and serves as a friend and reliable guide for players on their adventures. She also uses the three above Pokémon on her team, so you should get to meet them early.

If you want to order the game now, you can do so via the eShop, click here for Pokémon Scarlet and here for Pokémon Violet. Both games are included within the Nintendo Switch Online Voucher Program, so you can get both for quite a discount.

A bunch of new screens were revealed last night as well, which are below.
