PlayStation Portal has been dated for release this November for some countries

PlayStation Australia have announced that the PlayStation Portal will not release in Australia until 2024, so those hoping for a holiday release here are out of luck. There has been no price provided for it at this stage either.

Original Story

PlayStation have announced that the PlayStation Portal, a way for players to enjoy their PlayStation 5 games, without needing to use a TV, will release in a few countries this November, Australia however doesn’t appear one of them.

The device features an 8-inch LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps, so those players who are used to enjoying 4K at 120fps might want to think twice on using this. In addition, there is one major requirement to use the device, it needs internet to function, this is the requirement as listed by PlayStation.

Requires broadband internet Wi-Fi with at least 5Mbps for use. For a better play experience, a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps is recommended

While it connects to your local network, the requirement of an internet connection may be an issue for many Australian gamers, which may explain the lack of a local release for now. The device won’t support PlayStation VR or PlayStation VR2 titles, which is totally expected, but it also will not allow for you to stream games from PlayStation directly, so PlayStation 3 or the recently launched PlayStation 5 streaming titles, neither of which are available in Australia, so it matters not for us.

Regardless of the issues with connectivity, it seems there are many gamers who are intrigued by this device, so now we just need to wait and see about when the device might come to Australia, if it even does.
