PlayStation has acquired Bungie for $3.6b dollars, but Bungie is staying multiplatform

PlayStation have announced that they are buying out developer Bungie, in a deal worth $3.6 Billion dollars, with Bungie and PlayStation both confirming that all players of the Destiny series and future games from the developer, will be able to enjoy them on any platform they want, they will not be made PlayStation exclusive.

Pete Parsons, CEO of Bungie and Herman Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios both released statements on the PlayStation Blog about the buyout, but this is the crucial part from Pete.

With Sony, the potential for our universes is unlimited. Our future games will take bold steps into unexplored spaces for Bungie, continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, and will always be built on a foundation of creating meaningful, lifelong friendships and memories.

We remain in charge of our destiny. We will continue to independently publish and creatively develop our games. We will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community. Our games will continue to be where our community is, wherever they choose to play.

The studio also put out a FAQ about the buyout and had this question and answer provided:

Q. Bungie has future games in development, will they now become PlayStation exclusives?

No. We want the worlds we are creating to extend to anywhere people play games. We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community.

What this means for the future of Bungie, is not yet known, the studio have a new expansion for Destiny 2 launching this month, but have the next two already in development. They have announced a hiring blitz, but that does not mean we will see more games from them any time soon, for now we wait and see, but this is good news for one of the industries biggest names.
