PlayStation details the tech that is bringing the PlayStation VR2 to life
PlayStation have released a new trailer for their upcoming PlayStation VR2 headset, not to announce a release date or price for it, but rather to highlight the tech that is powering the device. From two 2000 x 2040 OLED displays, to an in-built feedback device in the headband, it has it all, check it out.
The two OLED displays will support a 4K resolution at up to 120fps and allow for a 110 degree field of view, allowing you to see more, without any distractions. The headset also sports eye-tracking, which can be used to follow where you are looking, in order to deliver a more immersive game.
That is just inside the headset, tracking on the outside is richer as well, because there are four cameras embedded in the headset, which will track how you are moving and the direction you are facing, without the need for any external camera, like the current PlayStation VR.
As mentioned before, there is feedback in the headset, so best make sure you don’t get shot in game, or you might really feel it and when you couple that with the haptic feedback in the controllers, people should be able to feel everything.
The single aspect that I find to the be the most revolutionary, the connection from the headset to the PlayStation 5 console is achieved with just a single cable, that can plug directly into the front of the console. Sadly, all they have said is its USB and not the type and as the PlayStation 5 has a USB-A and USB-C on its front, that doesn’t narrow it down.
Either way, the headset is set to release sometime in 2023, but there is no firmer date than that, but when it does arrive, I expect its price will match the console its meant to be used for.
