New details for The Pitt, Fallout 76's first expedition have been revealed
Bethesda have released new details for Fallout 76’s upcoming expedition The Pitt, talking about the new story, location, rewards and more.
Before we get into the new details, let us talk access to The Pitt. This Fallout 76 expedition is free, for all existing players and all those coming in, you may see ads for Fallout 76 The Pitt Deluxe Edition however. If you do, just no that those ads would be for new players coming in, it is still the same game and content, just aimed at new players. The Deluxe Edition does come with some extra cosmetic and in-game items however, which are grouped together under the title of the Recruitment Bundle, but you can buy that on its own if you want as well.
Now let us look at the new details, first up location. Long time Fallout fans may recall The Pitt as one of the new locations that was added to Fallout 3 as DLC, this expedition to that location is set well before those events. Now you will journey north and discover a power struggle between the Union Faction and the Fanatics, a group of raiders who crave power. Build an alliance with the Union and learn their background, earning new weapons and armour as you build a reputation with the Raider-besieged faction.
“The team felt passionate about allowing players to explore other parts of the Fallout universe outside of Appalachia in this unique time period, only a few decades after the Great War,” explains Steve Massey, Lead Designer on Fallout 76’s Expeditions. “The Pitt was an obvious choice for the first city to visit, because in Fallout 3 it was such a bleak and unforgiving landscape that you ask yourself, ‘How did things get to be so bad?’.” In the future, the format of Expeditions also gives us the opportunity to take players to brand-new locales in the Fallout universe that no existing game has touched upon before.”
Once you are there, you can undertake missions, that are larger in scale and repeatable, as well as being available to do solo or with friends. Just be aware, the labyrinthian streets of ruined Pittsburgh can test even the most experienced and prepared groups, with Expeditions’ challenges on par with Fallout 76’s end-of-questline missions. Conquer Expeditions to earn experience, loot and Stamps - a new currency you can exchange for powerful and rare Expedition-themed rewards, including an all-new way of gaining Legendary Modules.
“Expedition missions are randomized and repeatable story-based missions on the scale of our most epic end-of-line quests, such as the Vault 79 raid at the end of Wastelanders,” explains Massey. “We developed a new Quest Module system which allows us to easily randomize and retheme quest objectives in order to make each mission playthrough feel truly unique and blend seamlessly into the overarching mission story.”
If you are coming into the game new, things are changing to be a little more welcoming for you.
“The Whitespring Resort has been completely revamped into a player hub called Whitespring Refuge,” says Massey. “Players will participate in Refuge Daily Quests, experience a brand-new random encounter system and repair/purchase/craft almost anything in the game that they want in the lower Whitespring Mall area. Additionally, the update comes with a ton of frequently requested quality-of-life changes, including the ability to fast-travel directly into the interiors of frequently visited locations like The Whitespring and The Rusty Pick without spending any Caps.”
Adventures into The Pitt will take off on September 13 for all platforms that the game is on.
