New details for Babylon's Fall puts context around that gameplay reveal

Square Enix finally took the cover off of Babylon’s Fall at E3 2021, but if we are being honest, the trailer was rubbish and made little sense, that is why they had the good idea to release more information about the game, you can check out the trailer again below, if you want to.

The game is a online co-op action RPG and by that, they mean it is always online, no internet means no play, but if that is not an issue, then in this high fantasy world, you and your friends will take on enemies and bosses, all over the mysterious Tower of Babylon.

What is required for you to explore the tower is what is know as a Gideon Coffin, not a gilded coffin like I first thought, but Gideon Coffin. This device is actually implanted into the back of your character and allows you to use the Gideon Cut, a series of spectral tendrils that burst out of the Gideon Coffin enabling a range of different abilities. That may sound weird, and it is a bit, but what it means is that while you are dual wielding two weapons, the Gideon Cut can pick up two more, so you can double dual wield, or quad wield and given there are no restrictions on what you can use, you can have some unique weapon combinations.

Because you have access to a range of weapons and shields, that means you can rock some swords and shields, to give you a balance of attack and defence, or equip four bows, so you can dish out damage from a distance. In addition, you can change up what you carry, so you are not locked into any specific combination, meaning that if you are just not getting anywhere with a boss, or room of enemies, carry four massive hammers and go to town.

All of that comes back together when you start to pair properly with your adventuring pals, because while you can use swords to get in and fight them, you can also have four shields, drawing in the enemies, leaving them open for someone else to take out from a distance.

Beyond that, you can also use some of the mechanics that anyone who has played a Platinum Games title, will be familiar with, so evading and then striking back with a quick counter, stunning the enemy and leaving them open to be pummelled by your friends.

Sadly, that was all the extra information that Square Enix revealed, but it at least puts some of the trailer into context and does make the game sounds more impressive. Right now that is all they are sharing, but they are expecting to reveal more details later in the year, Tokyo Game Show would be my bet for when.

The game is in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and now PlayStation 5, but there is no release date given.
