Metaphor Refantazio delivers new details on its battle systems and more
Atlus have released a slew of new details about Metaphor ReFantazio, as the October 11 release gets closer, so lets take a look at what is new.
First up is the games ‘Fast & Squad’ battle system. This new battle system revolutionises dungeon encounters, offering a dynamic blend of combat styles. Players have the freedom to toggle between "Fast," a real-time action mode for direct enemy engagement, and "Squad," a strategic turn-based command battle system, seamlessly integrating two distinct gameplay experiences.
"Fast" is a strategic approach to combat lower-ranked enemies you've encountered before. In the field, you can utilize the lock-on feature, dash, and evade. Successfully defeating enemies with "Fast" while being mindful of their attacks allows for smooth dungeon progression. Moreover, as the "Fast" attack style varies based on the Archetypes a player equips, discovering a "Fast" combat style that fits your preferences is crucial for dungeon navigation.
Enemies highlighted in yellow or red by Gallica's Fae Sight are considered dangerous to the protagonist. Powerful foes cannot be overcome using the "Fast" battle mode, thus switching to the "Squad" command battle is advisable. Moreover, persistently attacking in "Fast" battle can stun the enemy, giving you an upper hand when initiating a command battle.
You may have noticed an ability called Fae Sight, above, this is a skill wielded by the protagonist's ally, the fairy Gallica. This ability enables her to perceive her environment and assess the threat level of adversaries. It grants insight into the power of the monsters lurking in perilous dungeons, thus informing your combat strategy.
Of course, this is not a journey that you will be undertaking on your own. Throughout his journey, the protagonist will encounter and forge friendships with diverse individuals. As he nurtures these relationships, his companions will evolve into his most ardent allies. Engaging with these allies is a crucial element of the adventure, for it is through the fortification of these connections that Archetype awakenings occur, along with the attainment of various abilities.
In each region, the heroes are tasked with completing the main quest within a set timeframe. However, it's the side quests that often hold the key to success. These quests, given by characters encountered along the way, involve hunting, exploring, investigating, and come with a variety of rewards upon completion. Some side quests pit players against formidable foes, while others provide opportunities to acquire unique gear. With a plethora of side quests available, players have the freedom to choose which to tackle first, shaping their adventure. Leveraging these side quests is crucial for strengthening the party and ensuring the main quest is completed before time runs out.
In the heart of the narrative, the protagonist confronts personal fears, forging alliances with a circle of allies. This camaraderie fosters the emergence of 'Archetypes'—heroic embodiments that can be summoned in battle through a bond of trust.
As these Archetypes are roused, they grant the protagonist the ability to morph into these powerful personas during strategic combat, provided they are armed with the necessary Archetype.
The array of Archetypes is vast and varied, each brandishing unique skills and distinct temperaments. From the versatile Seeker, adept in various combat roles, to the Mage, a master of exploiting foes' vulnerabilities with potent spells, and the cunning Thief, skilled in expropriating valuable resources—the choice of which Archetypes to awaken and the strategy of party configuration lies in the hands of the player, paving the way to forge an invincible team.
Martira, affectionately known as Old Castle Town, offers a stark contrast to the bustling Royal Capital. Renowned for its unique local dishes that feature a special kind of larvae, the town has become a culinary hotspot for adventurous tourists. While Martira exudes tranquility at first sight, the nearby desert harbors a fearsome creature known as the "Giant Sandworm," casting a shadow of fear over the townsfolk. Additionally, a mysterious incident looms over the town, further threatening the safety of its inhabitants. It is within this setting that our protagonists find themselves, ready to face the unfolding events in Martira.
Finally, as you embark on the epic quest for the throne, be prepared to confront a series of daunting dungeons. These labyrinths are teeming with formidable foes and a myriad of hindrances designed to thwart your progress. Yet, the promise of rare treasures and mighty weapons beckons the brave to venture forth.
In this adventure, you'll encounter two distinct categories of dungeons. The "main dungeons" are integral to the unfolding narrative, guiding you through the core of the story. Meanwhile, "side dungeons" emerge throughout various side missions, offering additional trials and rewards for those seeking a greater challenge.
We also got new screens for other locations like the weapon shop, the Royal Capital, the Visa Alba Tavern and more, you can enjoy those below as well.
