Maxi-Geek's Best Of 2020 - Indies

2020 has been quite the year, but in the world of gaming, apart from some delays, it really just moved along like normal. Well, as normal as it can be in the midst of a global pandemic, with that said, there were countless amazing games across the various platforms and even some good movies to enjoy.

Today we are looking at indies, from one person studios to small teams, these are the games made by folks who love what they do and want to share their passion with the world.

Cooking games have had a resurgence of late, with Overcooked kicking off an entirely new genre of game, but Cook, Serve, Delicious is still serving up the more classic fare.

The game keeps the flow going from the first two games, but instead throws you into a wasteland of 2041 and in the heart of the food truck wars. If that didn’t sound appealing then there are also hundreds of recipes to discover and create, plus with catchy music and the ability to have a friend join you in the line, there is a lot to salivate over.

There is a lot to learn here, but if you like this style of game, then there is plenty of things to plate, so get cooking as the orders are coming in fast here.

There has been quite a number of games lately that tackle some truly heart-breaking subjects and while death in games has never been ignored, it has never looked as stunning as it does here.

You take on the roll of Stella, the next boatman, having taken over from Charon and your goal is simple, help those with tasks still remaining, before they are sent on to the afterlife. While the game could easily be a dark and depressing experience, Spiritfarer is anything but, it has a wonderful art style and is packed with so much heart it is insane.

It is not just a matter of helping folks cross over, but you also need to manage the ship you are in charge of, build rooms, grow crops and complete missions, there is a lot to being a ferryman it seems.

In a year of countless amazing indie games, Hades was the one that stood out from the rest, at least for us, taking over half the vote.

You are Zagreus, son of Hades and imprisoned in Hades, those are not the same, and your goal is simple, escape. Each time you fail and you will, you learn a little more of the story and it pushes you forward, combine that with buffs that change each time you play and a layout that is never the same, the game offers dozens and dozens of hours of gaming.

If that wasn’t enough, it has enough Greek lore contained within, to make Homer and Plato jealous

What do you think, some pretty amazing games there, but what indie games did you enjoy this year?
