Insomniac Games Founder Ted Price is retiring after 30 years

Overnight, Sony announced that Ted Price, the founder of Insomniac Games would be retiring after more than 30 years at the head of the studio. His legacy is quite a big one as he created Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, and the Resistance Series and oversaw countless other titles at the studio.

There are two big bits of information with the news, first is that Ted’s leaving will take place at the end of March, which gives people time to say goodbye. He wrote a letter, that you can read here, which goes into more detail about the why and what is next.

The second bit of information is that the studio will now be lead by three people, which is either a sign that there is more work coming than one person would be able to handle sanely, or that Ted was such a leader he could handle the work of three.

The new leads are Ryan Schneider, Jen Huang, and Chad Dezern. With each of them having been at the studio for a while, so they will understand how things happen there. The PlayStation Blog has a little more detail around each of the new co-leads, so you can head there to lean all about them.

Insomniac Games could have a big year, we know Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is swinging onto PC soon, well like a week from now to be exact. While the studio is helping out with that port, they are not the leads on it, which means that they have been without a game since the PlayStation 5 release of it. Given that was more than 2 years ago now, we should finally see more from Wolverine this year, or maybe not.

Regardless of what is next for Insomniac Games, not having Ted there will be a change as he has been the face of the studio for three decades and his legacy will be one of creative joy. We thank Ted for the games he made, because those games have given us hours and hours of adventures.
