Hong Kong Disneyland is celebrating 20 years and the party kicks off in June
We have known for a while now that Hong Kong Disneyland would be celebrating 20 years this year, with a 12-month long celebration and now we have the start date and details about some of the brand-new offerings. The celebration begins on June 28 and is expected to last for 12 months.
In January 2011, Hong Kong Disneyland revealed the Flights of Fantasy Parade, and that ran until January 2020, when the park ended the run and closed for covid. Since the park re-opened, they have not had a daytime parade, but that is changing this year with the Friendtastic! parade.
The parade will feature 11 floats, with more than 30 characters from Disney and Pixar films, plus another 100 dancers and performers, which makes it one of the largest parades, at least in scale, in the parks 20 years. Paint the Night had some bigger floats, which made it the biggest. This new parade will also feature four brand new songs, written exclusively for it, so Disney music fans are also in for a treat.
Those who are going to sit and watch the parade will see characters appear from Zootopia, Big Hero 6 and Encanto from Disney, with Pixar bringing Toy Story, Monsters, Inc, Turning Red, Inside Out and Up. Mickey Mouse and his friends will also be in the parade, but Duffy and his friends will also get a float to themselves, as that character is turning 20 this year as well.
The Encanto float will bring Casa Madrigal to life with dancing tiles, glowing doors and flapping shutters. Red Panda Mei from Turning Red, Isabela from Encanto and Officer Clawhauser from Zootopia will even make their debut appearances at Hong Kong Disneyland during this all-new parade, so it should be good.
For those who have been to the park since it re-opened, like I have, Momentous will have captured your attention, as it is simply incredible. In celebration of 20 years, the show is getting enhanced and will be known as Momentous: Party in the Night Sky! So, what makes this special, well for the first time, the show’s stunning castle projections are being extended all the way down Main Street, U.S.A.
Watching new shows and parades is great, but sometimes you need to pick up a special item to help commemorate the event and they have you covered, as there are over 300 all-new items that are debuting for the 20th anniversary.
There are plush of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Duffy, ShellieMay, Gelatoni, CookieAnn, LinaBell, StellaLou and ‘Olu Mel. Ther are also new shirts, ears, bags and a lot more, with designs embracing colour of varying styles.
If you are a foodie, then get ready to indulge as the park will offer over 80 new food and drink options across the celebration, with a number of them embracing the rainbow them, including a special fairy floss. The Disney Parks Blog has a complete list of all the items, which include things like:
