Gamecube games are coming to Switch 2 on release day

During the recent Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that a new platform would be joining the line up for Nintendo Switch Online games, Nintendo GameCube and it would be doing it on release day for the console.

Before we dive into the games it is important to know that the service is getting a name adjustment. Right now the service is known as Nintendo Switch Online Classic Games, which is quite the mouthful, but on June 5 the service will be called Nintendo Classic, a much simpler name.

The day one releases will include the following games:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

  • Soul Calibur II

  • F-Zero GX

Much like other platforms that Nintendo have added, they have teased more games to come, so far the known titles are:

  • Super Mario Sunshine

  • Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

  • Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness

  • Mario Smash Football

  • Chibi-Robo

  • Luigi’s Mansion

  • Pokémon Colosseum

As you might expect there is no release date for when the other games will arrive, but knowing Nintendo I am sure we will get the last one sometime in late 2026.

Finally, Nintendo also announced that a new GameCube controller would be released. Like the other controllers for Nintendo Switch Online games, these will be sold directly via Nintendo by the My Nintendo Store and you must be a member to buy one. As a note, this controller is not required, but it does look good still. It will be available on the same day as the console, no word about orders being placed before then.
