FIFA 22 is taking back the pitch with HyperMotion on next gen consoles
Overnight EA Sports announced FIFA 22 is coming and will release on October 1st, with early access to those who buy the Ultimate Edition. This years release will include a new system that they are calling HyperMotion, check out the debut trailer to get an idea.
Before we dive into the game, let’s confirm platforms, FIFA 22 is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and if you noticed no Switch in that list, it would because the series is coming back to the portable platform, but with the same Legacy moniker that it has had for a few years, meaning a new front end and roster update and nothing else.
“FIFA 22 offers millions of fans around the world a chance to engage with the sport they love in an unprecedented way,” said Nick Wlodyka, GM, EA SPORTS FIFA. “Each player experiences FIFA in their own way but on-pitch gameplay is the unifying constant, so we’re excited to offer deep innovation there. HyperMotion elevates that even further on next-gen consoles and Stadia and completely changes the feel of the game.”
But let’s talk HyperMotion, the first step in this process was having 22 players wear Xsens Suits, a motion capture suit, then letting them hit the pitch to play. There was no recording of individual moments, the two teams of 11 players, each enjoyed a full match at the full intensity they are known to play at.
All that data comes to life in part two of the system, Machine Learning, with all that data, the game will now create animations in real time, based on the actions you take in the game, which should reduce those random jumps from one move to another. The system has created over 4000 new animations, to provide the most fluid version of FIFA yet.
Paris Saint-Germain striker and global football icon Kylian Mbappé graces the cover for the second year in a row, making him one of few to earn back-to-back cover star status, alongside others like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Being on back-to-back FIFA covers is amazing,”said Kylian Mbappé. “I have a very special relationship with the game and look forward to enjoying FIFA 22 alongside all of you.”
The big important part though, this new system will only be available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, it is also included in the Stadia release, but as we don’t have that hear, it matters not. Those playing on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will get the usual updates to the game, no HyperMotion tech for you.
Finally, those who get the game on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 this year, but are hoping for a new console come the holidays, a ‘free’ upgrade to the same family of consoles is offered again, but only in the Ultimate Edition of the game, the standard edition does not get you a free next gen version. All the details on that, can be found here.
The game is launching on October 1st for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with Ultimate Edition buyers getting the game 3 days earlier.
