espresso Displays is launching its next-gen portable display

espresso Display is an Australian company that launched their first portable display a few years ago and then followed it up with version 2, which we reviewed and loved. But it seems they have more ideas to share, as they have announced the espresso 17 Pro.

While the first and second displays were designed for 1080p, the espresso 17 Pro sports a 4k display, 1 billion colours, 450 nits of brightness and an overhauled touch screen, to make it feel like its all new.

The biggest change in this new model is of course the increase in screen size, taking it from the 13 and 15 inch screens to a 17 inch screen, while they could have stopped with just adding in more screen, they used the chance to redo much of the design.

The case is all new, it uses aerospace aluminium in its frame and while it still has the chin that was present on the other models, its now the same colour as the rest, making it feel like it vanishes.

In addition to a larger screen, the resolution has also been bumped, taking it from the 1080p from the first two generations to a 4K display here. That means when combined with the enhanced colours of the display - over 1 billion, artists, designers, editors or anyone really, can enjoy the best visual experience.

The screens brightness has also been reworked, something that I am happy to see. Now the screen will auto-match the brightness settings from the source device. This means that if you plug in a MacBook, the screen will match that brightness level. While the screen is rated for 450 nits, it may not go up there all the time.

The other factor for screen brightness is power, as the screen is larger and brighter, it does use more power. That means that it will also limit how bright you can jack up the brightness, based on the amount of power to you, run it straight from your computer or tablet and its limited, but there is a solution if you want bright, just connect it to power.

One of the new accessories that the company have designed is the espresso Charge, a portable battery that can deliver 27,000mAh / 99wH. While the battery was designed for the espresso 17 Pro, it will also work with your phone, Switch or any other electric device.

It will also pair with the new espresso Stand Pro, which takes the idea of the first stand, but fixes a few issues that users had raised about it. The adjustable espresso Stand Pro allows for work at various angles and heights, including portrait and landscape modes. Optimised for drawing and sketching, Stand Pro can be set securely to an 18-degree angle with a purple accented built-in kick-stand.

There is also the Case 17, the folio type cover that protects the display when in your bag, but can also double as a stand for the display, if you don’t get one of the Stand Pros. For those who really enjoy the feeling of writing and drawing on paper, there is the espresso Creator, which is a paper-esque screen protective adhesive layer.

As for availability, orders can be placed today, with shipping taking place in November. There are two ways of getting the screen, at least before general availability.
