Battlefield Studios is revealed, as they promise a lot for the series
Electronic Arts were teasing some big news for the Battlefield series over the weekend and we got it overnight, but it is not as massive as you might have imagined. First up is the new Battlefield Studios, a group of existing studios all working on Battlefield content.
The full list of studios are:
DICE
Ripple Effect
Criterion
Motive
Now DICE and Ripple Effect being included are no brainers, DICE is where the series was created and Ripple Effect used to be be DICE LA. The two of them have been creating Battlefield content for the longest time. Criterion is a bit of a weird one as the studio has supported DICE in the past, they assisted with Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefield, but they have also been working on Need for Speed Unbound. Them working on new Battlefield is no surprise, as that was already announced, but them no longer working on Need for Speed is honestly an insult to everyone.
The last group added is Motive Studios, which in the past created the single player campaign for Star Wars Battlefront II and more recently Dead Space remake. We know the studio is also working on an Iron Man game, but they picked up Battlefield in 2024 when EA closed down Ridgeline Games, who were meant to be working on something for Battlefield. You can learn more about each of the studios in our 2025 Electronic Arts Publisher Preview.
Ok, so a new group name for a bunch of existing studios is not massive news, so they had to have more to share and it depends on what you consider to be news. Battlefield Labs has been unveiled and is a new testing program where people can register their interest and if selected, they will be able to test out new Battlefield content and help shape the series going forward. I would love to say the video below explains what Battlefield Labs is in detail, but that would be a lie. It does explain a little about it, but nothing truly detailed. If you want to sign up, you can do so here. Just be aware that when we attempted to join there were about 247,000 people ahead of us waiting to sign up.
So with all this news, does that mean a new Battlefield is coming soon? No, it does not. What it does mean is that as their game is pre-alpha, they have playable chunks of a game, but those chunks are not connected yet. Given that the time between pre-alpha and alpha, and then alpha to beta, can honestly be as long as a piece of string, there is no time frame on whatever this game is will be revealed. If I had to put money on things, I would imagine it will be a 2026 reveal, but with a few thousand staff working on the series now, they could prove me wrong.
