A wave of classic titles are getting new life via Limited Run Games

The recent Limited Run Games showcase revealed a number of classic games getting another shot at life, via the companies Carbon Engine.

Much like Kex Engine from Nightdive Studios, the Carbon Engine takes older games and gives them a new lease on life, via emulation. Well not emulation like you might be thinking, the engine basically rebuilds the game to make it work on modern platforms, but it requires the old source code to work. It also means that elements like the UI, sound or anything else can be touched upon for improvements or fixes. These were some of the games and collections announced as coming via the Carbon Engine, the Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection got its own story, as I love that series.

The games below were only announced and apart from the trailers and platforms, there are no other details on them and that sadly includes release windows. The games will be getting physical releases, but will also get a digital release.

Gex Trilogy

From: Square Enix

Platforms: Switch, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4

Tomba!

From: WhooPee Camp

Platforms: Switch, PlayStation 5, PC, PlayStation 4

Clock Tower

From: Capcom/Sunsoft

Platforms: Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One

Of course the show did have a full line up of games getting physical releases like Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 for Switch, or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games getting sound releases, you can watch the entire show below to see it all.

The important thing to note for Limited Run Games is that they don’t begin production on items until the orders are all taken, so if there is a 2 month order window and you get yours in on day 1, nothing will happen for 2 months. Production then takes minimum 9 months and while those times never and I mean never stick to schedule, just remember that if you order something today, there is a fair chance its going to be a year if not longer until you get it.
