Grand Theft Auto 5 PC - 60 Second Review
Grand Theft Auto has had a little bit of a troublesome history on the PC, with the games originally launching at the same time as their console versions, but lately the PC versions have released quite a while later and with GTA V that is the case, but it was a worthy wait.
If you have played the game on any of the other formats, the game here is the same, from the characters to the world, every element from those versions has made the transition to PC. So in the interests of time I wont go over the story mode here, you can read about that in my PlayStation 4 review, what you need to know about the PC version is just how good it is. The game performs really well, of course if you don’t have a capable machine that could be an issue, but the game still performs well on a lower spec rig. The game has had minor tweaks to things, which will go unnoticed by most, which shows just how much the developer worked on this version. This was not a rush port, they took their time and played to the games strengths.
The biggest element to launch alongside the game were the new features within GTA Online, which is a lot more fun here, with the wealth of players around. There were a few connection issues when I first started, but I could trace them back to my internet connection, the game never had an issue, which I was grateful for. For those that have played online on other consoles, you can transfer your character over, but it was a onetime deal, so I passed on that function, deciding to start a new. What you will get from the game online, will depend on entirely what you put in, for me the amount of races and missions was fun, with seeing random players doing some really random things the true highlight.
The only real issue with the PC are the mouse and keyboard controls, they do work, but trying to do a few things at once, can have you playing a game of Twister with your hands. Thankfully the game supports controllers, which is something I suggest you use. Of course being on PC, you can do some crazy things with mods, which a quick internet search will give you some fun videos, but the one element made by Rockstar that is exclusive to the PC version of the game is the Rockstar Editor. The tools that Rockstar have provided are some of the best editing tools around, add to that the ability to record gameplay footage from your own game, will help PC players show off those insane events.
But the tools are not limited to just recording your own gameplay, using the Director mode, you can actually create a scene from scratch. You can import characters and props into your scene, have a set location, time of day and weather to help sell your creation and then edit all your bits and pieces together to tell your story, you can even add your own sound and music, making you the next Steven Spielberg. The power that this tool has is amazing, but the best part, it is not hard to use, which is something other games have struggled with, I am sure that someone at Rockstar made sure the tools were simple and they deserve a pat on the back for that choice.
If you have not played Grand Theft Auto 5 yet, then you are missing out, the PC is the best looking and performing of them and with the incredible Rockstar Editor behind it, you have no reasons for you not to play it.
Thanks to Rockstar for providing the game for review
