Pro Pinball - Review

There have been a number of pinball games released for iOS over the years, some have built themselves around licences and others have gone for impossible tables, things that could never work in real life, however Barnstorm Games has gone and built perhaps one of the most authentic Pinball games, outside of a physical one.

Pinball is something that really needs very little explanation, by hitting the ball around the table you earn points and you get three balls and see how long you can last while getting as many points as possible. What can break a virtual pinball game is the controls, if the responsiveness is not there, then it is entirely possible for you to miss shots that you knew would be great, thankfully Pro Pinball has that down.

The controls here are really simply, tapping each side of the screen will cause the bumpers on the same side to flick, swiping up on the table to give it a nudge and that is about it. The other actions can presented by giant buttons that disappear when used, but the controls are as complex as they need to be, which is perfect. Thankfully the table on offer here is more complex, but not in a bad way.

The table itself, Timeshock will see you attempting to send ships through time and countries and as you trigger each event you will be tasked with goals in order to earn the points. These tasks are perfectly in line with the game itself, they are not over the top but they work in tandem with what the game is doing. The table is the star here and it is not loaded with complex animations or over the top details that draw away your attention, even the scoreboard feels as it should.

The game itself is free to get and you can play up until you hit a certain score, so if you are bad at the game you could enjoy it for months. But for those looking to see how they stack up against the competition then you will need to purchase the game from within it. For those who want to customise the game more, the pro mode offers up the options to do so and even better, you can remove the glass and use your finger to send the ball where you want it go.

Pro Pinball does a fantastic job at recreating the true pinball experience on your iOS device and it does so without complicating the game. For those looking for over the top elements, you will be disappointed here, but if it is a solid game you can’t go wrong.
