2014 In Games - Most Disappointing

2014 was a great year for games, we got some truly amazing titles released last year and some not so good ones. While every game company endeavour is to do what they can to release a polished game sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way. These are my biggest disappointments for the year that was.

The Crew

Sold as the world’s first MMO Racer, The Crew had a lot of potential before the game launched, but sadly it was not to be. The game launched and immediately suffered from server problems, meaning players were not able to get online to play the game at all. For anyone who was able to actually get online, they were met with numerous bugs that made the game almost impossible to play.

Ubisoft had a few bad launches last year, but The Crew takes their number one spot.

Destiny

The next big game from the creators of Halo, Bungie were betting big on Destiny and while it paid off in terms of sales, it saw a massive split in terms of how it was received. It launched to a lot of fanfare, but pretty soon people began to discover that the game did not offer the amount of content that was promised, or much else for that matter. Players just kept revisiting the same spaces to attempt to get their value for money.

Since then, Bungie have worked hard to add it more content to the game, but at an additional cost to the player.

Driveclub

Driveclub was announced that PlayStation 4 launch event and promised as a launch title for the new console, but with only days to go it was delayed until the new year, then close to its new launch date it was delayed again. When the game finally did release, 12 months after its initial launch date, it was broken. Bad servers meant people could not play the game as it was intended to be played and add to that fact that half the games content was not ready, Sony had to work fast to fix this title.

The game has seen a lot of updates since then, but for many gamers they have moved on and forgotten about it.

Broken Age

A brand new point and click adventure from Tim Schaffer, that was all I needed to know to back it on Kickstarter. Sadly, the game took ages to be released and when it finally did come, it was only half a game. Players got to experience the first half of the two stories and have been waiting almost 12 months for word of the second parts release.

Since then Double Fine have released other games, but we are still waiting for more Broken Age.

Here is hoping that 2015 is the year publishers learn, not to release broken games or half finished ones.

Also, be sure to check out what games I thought were great last year and what games surprised me.
