Pirates of the Caribbean invades Shanghai Disneyland with a new twist on the classic attraction.

Disney’s Shanghai Disneyland will include Treasure Cove, a themed land that will include a “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride designed specifically for Chinese guests.

The first look of the attraction was shown at Disney’s shareholders meeting in Portland, Ore., by Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger.

The ride, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure,” will be the first to be based on the “Pirates” films, and incorporate new effects and technology, as well as the Captain Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones characters from the films.

“Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most iconic attractions in our parks, and we really couldn’t imagine Shanghai Disneyland without Pirates,” Iger said. “We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind experience that would appeal to our Chinese guests while remaining true to its Disney heritage.”

Below, you will see a photo of the current state of construction for the area. It needs to be said that Disney fans expected this when the original model for the park was first shown off. The artwork had always shown a rock shaped like a skull.
