Sony - First in Australia with Google TV

Sony today announced it will be the first manufacturer to bring the Google TV platform to Australia. Where TV meets the web, Sony’s Internet Player with Google TV 1  will provide Australians with an enhanced entertainment experience through a number of exciting features – such as apps and games from Google Play, a full web browser utilising Google Chrome and the best YouTube on TV experience. In addition, the Player’s unique “smart” remote – including track pad and full QWERTY keyboard – ensures simple navigation through the features.

Sony Google TV
Initially, Sony’s Internet Player with Google TV will be available exclusively with the purchase of selected models from the company’s BRAVIA TV range 2. The limited-time offer will begin in retail stores around Australia and online at  www.sony.com.au from 28 June 2012.
“There’s smart, and then there’s smartest – and that’s what we think Google TV offers consumers who want the ultimate connected, big screen experience at home,” said Carl Rose, Managing Director, Sony Australia and New Zealand. “With the combination of the superb picture quality of our BRAVIA TV range and our Internet Player with Google TV, we will give digital entertainment lovers a new understanding of what’s possible in today’s living room – and tomorrow’s. Combining Sony’s strength in TV and Google’s power in web, we are truly proud to be the first Google TV partner in Australia.”
TV and internet, together as one
Sony’s Internet Player with Google TV brings the best of Google to your TV, offering the freedom of the web on the big screen. Viewers can search for anything they can imagine with the fast Google Chrome browser. Enjoy easy access to favourite websites, YouTube – with 72 hours of video being added every minute – and more at the touch of a button. It also offers access to Sony Entertainment Network’s services including Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited.
Total control at a touch
The uniquely designed remote control makes the Internet Player with Google TV easy to operate. The dual-sided remote has a touch pad for cursor control on one side and on the other a full keyboard for searching, emails and social media updates. It also has a three-axis motion sensor for playing games.
Fun at your fingertips with Google Play
With the addition of Google Play store, viewers have access to the rapidly growing collection of games, news and social apps such as YouTube and Twitter – with new apps continually added from a global community of developers from around the world.
Sony and Google TV
In 2010, Sony pioneered the Internet-TV convergence as one of the first manufacturers to launch products powered by Google TV. With the new Internet Player with Google TV, Sony will also be the first manufacturer to launch Google TV products outside of the United States, initially starting with the United Kingdom in July, followed by Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Netherlands, Brazil, and Mexico.
