Marvel Rivals has been announced and brings some super to the hero shooter game

Marvel Games and NetEase have joined forces once again, after working together on Marvel Duel and Marvel Super War. This time the game is a PvP shooter in the vein of Overwatch, as Marvel Rivals will pit teams of 6 against each other in locations inspired by classic Marvel comics. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Here is the brief story reason as for why the heroes are fighting against each other:

The merciless clash between tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises unknown.

Now, Super Heroes and Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups each seek to best both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!

One of the big additions to the game is that the locations will feature destructibility, be it Asgard or Tokyo 2099, players will be able to make use of their chosen heroes abilities to reshape the terrain, and craft a strategic advantage on the battlefield.

We are overjoyed to bring Marvel Rivals to players around the world. We have always loved Marvel’s universe and its characters, and we are so excited to be developing this game. This is the game we want to make, and we feel very lucky to be the team who made all of this come true.
— Stephen Wu, Producer on Marvel Rivals

Of course, superheroes love to team up and there will be an option here as well. While your selected character might be powerful, teaming up will make them more so. For example as Rocket Raccoon you can ride on Groot’s back or unleash a blast of gamma energy as the Hulk, to power up the armour worn by Iron Man.

The roster of characters has not been fully confirmed yet, but we know that Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men will get their time to shine again, along with many more from across the Marvel Multiverse.
